Going Green

Recycling ArrowsThe Cambridge Supermarket has been constantly moving toward being a more efficient, responsible company since the late 1980s. One of the first efforts the Cambridge Supermarket made towards being more environmentally friendly was recycling cardboard and then soon after, recycling plastic shopping bags as their usage grew in popularity. The Cambridge Supermarket encourages customers to bring in used plastic shopping bags for recycling. There is a collection container located on the premises. Unfortunately, due to health and safety codes, cardboard boxes are not accepted from customers for recycling.

Other ways the Cambridge Supermarket has reduced their carbon footprint:

  • Replaced old rock and tar roof with a foam insulation roof.
  • Remodeled store with more energy efficient lights.
  • Replaced free standing beverage coolers with one energy efficient cooler.
  • Replaced 24' meat case for energy efficiency.
  • Replaced 24' produce case for energy efficiency.
  • Replaced and added additional door freezers with more efficient models.
  • Replaced water cooled compressors with compressors cooled by recycled freon.
  • Ink Cartridges used on premises are recycled with the Cambridge Chapter of Alpha Omicron recycling program.

How you can help

  • Bring in used plastic bags and place in the plastic recycle bin.
  • Use reusable (canvas) shopping bags and receive a discount.
  • Save used ink cartridges and turn them in to the Cambridge Chapter of Alpha Omicron recycling program.
